The healthcare system in Germany cannot be compared to the United States. The education and training of the nursing professions are also different in comparison. But we have similar challenges in long-term care. One important issue is how we prevent or reduce unnecessary hospital admissions from nursing homes while respecting the will of nursing home residents. To this end, we have developed recommendations for action for nursing professionals in nursing homes so that they can become more confident in dealing with emergencies and also communicate more appropriately with rescue coordination centers and general practitioners. These recommendations for action are currently being tested to see whether they can reduce the goal of reducing hospital admissions and increase confidence in action from the perspective of participating nurses.
