Title : Geriatric nursing practice in community setting, handling the social life of the elderly

Geriatric Nursing is a special area of the profession which focuses on the care of the elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases in older adults. It is also understandable that greater percent of people will get to this stage in life and so when the elderly is being managed properly, they tend to trust and follow the advises of the nurse as well as their Geriatrician. It is important for the society to handle the elderly with kindness and see to their welfare, the social aspect of the elderly must not be overlooked because this is where they have a terrible feeling of "ending it all" Adequate communication with the elderly gives them joy and promotes their lives, they feel fulfilled when they are welcomed and have their age groups around them. The family setting should be assessed and managed by the Nurse explaining the mode of their management to the family as well as carrying them along in the treatment/social standing of the elderly.
