Title : Digital health engagement in stroke patients: A concept analysis
Abstract:
Aim: To clarify and define the concept of digital health engagement among stroke patients.
Design: Rodgers evolutionary method was employed to identify the attributes, antecedents, and consequences.
Data Sources: Literature from inception to April 2026 was systematically searched in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane, CINAHL, Medline, PsycINFO.
Results: A total of 26 studies were included. Digital health engagement among stroke patients comprised four defining attributes: cognitive preparation, proactive behaviour, technology integration, and dynamic maintenance. Antecedent factors encompassed demographic characteristics, psychological status, personal capabilities, and external support systems. Consequential outcomes included promotion of physical functional rehabilitation, improvement of mental health, enhancement of self-management capacity, and optimisation of healthcare resource utilisation.
Conclusion: Clarifying the conceptual connotations and structural framework of digital health engagement in stroke patients enables future research to develop specific assessment instruments and construct multi-level, contextualised intervention strategies, thereby enhancing digital health engagement and promoting functional recovery and long-term health management.
Impact: This study provides a conceptual framework for understanding digital health engagement in stroke populations. The framework may guide the development of assessment instruments and support the design of targeted, multi-level, and contextualised intervention strategies to improve digital health engagement and promote long-term rehabilitation and health management.
