Title : Humanized nursing care in primary health care: A patient-centered experience in Brazil
Abstract:
Humanization in nursing care is essential to ensure high-quality assistance that respects patient individuality. This study aimed to understand how patients and nursing professionals experience humanized care practices in a primary health care setting in São Luís de Montes Belos, Goiás, Brazil. A qualitative approach was adopted, using semi-structured interviews with 15 patients and 10 professionals, as well as participant observation of care routines. Content analysis revealed that attentive communication, active listening, respect for individual needs, and emotional support significantly contribute to patient well-being, safety, and adherence to treatment. Participants reported that small gestures of attention, personalized care, and the strengthening of interpersonal relationships make the healthcare experience more welcoming and humanized. The results reinforce the need to promote institutional policies and continuous training that strengthen a patient-centered care culture.
