The theatre nurse is required at various times throughout the procedure to support and help the patient, the surgeon, the surgical technician, the nurse anaesthetist, and the nurse practitioner. The nurse is required to assist in pre-operative patient and surgical room preparation. They support the anesthesiologist and the surgeons as needed during the procedure. In the post-operative stage, which comes last, patients are given the proper care and therapies. Nursing schools provide surgical nursing specialisations to those who desire to work as surgical nurses. Before being permitted to work as nurses, they are frequently needed to pass exams given by the government or by nursing certification boards. They may also be required to attend regular continuing education sessions in order to keep their licences current.
