Nursing Activities

To assist daily living activities, nurses manage and coordinate care (ADL). Nursing assistants are frequently given the responsibility of providing such care. This involves assistance with patient movement, such as repositioning a bedridden patient who is intolerant of exercise. Most hospital nursing duties include administering and managing medications, however prescription power varies by jurisdiction. A nurse practitioner or a doctor with full prescription power, as well as registered nurses, are frequently used to deliver and manage drugs. Adjustments to drugs are frequently done through a joint effort between the physician and the nurse since nurses are responsible for evaluating patients throughout their treatment, both before and after medication delivery. Nurses are legally accountable for the medications they administer, regardless of the prescription. No matter who the doctor is, nurses are legally accountable for the medications they give. When there is a prescription error, there can be legal repercussions, thus the nurse should have caught it and reported it. In the US, nurses are allowed to deny the delivery of any drug they believe may be detrimental to the patient. In the United Kingdom, some nurses have completed further specialised training that enables them to prescribe any pharmaceuticals that fall within their area of expertise.
