This paper discusses the barriers to recognition and management of obesity and the benefits of increased interventions on obesity in primary care. Obesity is factor in many comorbidities in primary care. Identifying patients with obesity can have an overall benefit to health care outcomes. There are many barriers that prevent primary care providers from identifying and diagnosing patients with obesity. There are tools that can be used to identify patients. By using these tools, patients can be treated with increased interventions such as counseling and a multidisciplinary approach to achieve better health outcomes.
